What’s inside the eBook

The ultimate goal of any oilseed processing operation is to extract as much oil from the seed as possible, effectively separating the liquid fat from solid material. After all, the quality of the resulting oil and meal byproducts that leave the plant determines the value that processors can reap for their efforts, which is key to maintaining profitability in order to keep the plant running.

The most crucial consideration begins long before the beans even enter the press. As soon as raw seed material is received, processors must carefully examine the incoming quality parameters of each shipment.

Regardless of how much foreign material you’re willing to accept in a shipment of raw beans, the first pre-processing step typically involves seed cleaning or removing as much of this foreign material as possible.

After pressing, crude oil must be further refined with additional processing to prepare the product for market. The oil will still contain a small amount of solid particulate at this point, as discussed above. (If it doesn’t, your press is likely not applying sufficient pressure).
